Engelberg

Engelberg is an ancient skiing village dating back to 1120 around a monastery with skiing beginning in the early twentieth century. Skiing wise it’s perfect for the intermediate skier with lively apres ski in the village centre, but it is an all round skiing resort for all abilities.

Skiing in Engelberg

There’s 82km (52 miles) of pistes in Engeleberg with 28 pistes in total accessed by the 26 ski lifts at mostly over 2000m high up. Accessing the base station for the main lift is around half a mile from the central village which is provided by the ski bus.

The majority of runs in Engelberg are suited for intermediates but there are blue runs for beginners located at different points around the mountains. Getting around is easy with the ski lifts but the area is broken down into separate ski areas rather than one big area. Experts won’t feel let down though, with some steep black runs on the Titlis which takes you down to the base of the Rotair car. Also check out the black runs down Laub beneath Titlis but make sure the snow is right on the slopes for this.

If cross country skiing is your thing,  there’s a wide variety of trails around Engelberg. The main snowboarding areas are on the Jochpass where there’s a boarders terrain park but most snowboarders head to the glacier.

Engelberg Aprés Ski

Engelberg is a lively ski resort to keep you busy when you’re off the slopes, with around 10 popular apres ski places to hit. Popular places are the Spindle disco, Eden bar and happy hour between 5-6pm at the Yucatan Mexican restaurant.
