Borovets
Borovets is the oldest resort in Bulgaria and definitely the most modern with a range of budget and luxury new hotels. The whole area is about to undergo a huge renovation with the proposal to build Super Borovets, which will triple the size of Borovets and create 19 new pistes and 12 new ski lifts as well as over 10,000 hotel rooms for both budget and super luxury tourists.
The ski season in Borovets tends to be shorter and start later so we would recommend booking up for January to ensure maximum coverage and the best ski.
Skiing in Borovets
Beginners
If you are very much a beginner, then Borovets may not be the place for you in Bulgaria, there is one green and one blue piste for beginners. You may feel more inclined to try out the reds if you have skied before, however if you are a first timer then I would recommend Bansko if you have your heart set on Bulgaria.
Intermediates
Medium ability skiers will really enjoy Borovets with the resort boasting an impressive 11 red runs for you to try your hand on. Many of these runs a linked in together so you can mix as many combos you like and ensure that each run prevents a different challenge and experience. The three Yastrebets runs are some of the most challenging runs and you will find yourself hitting those slopes more than any other in the resort.
Experts
Expert skiers looking for something different to the usual France, Austria, Switzerland axis might want to try Borovets this season. With 5 dedicated black runs that can challenge some of the best skiers around. The challenging moguls and rapid variations inclination mean you have to be at the top of your game otherwise you could be caught out (and given the fact that a few of the lifts go over these runs you wont want that infront of crowd!)
Apres-ski in Borovets
Borovets is certainly unlike most other Bulgarian resorts with its nightlife being slightly more western and more disco orientated. You can party in lively bars and clubs all night with other tourists and enjoy discounts and two for ones on drinks all night long, which makes up for the fact that it is slightly pricier than Bansko or Pamporovo.
