St Anton
With over 260km of piste action, there is something for everyone when you visit St Anton. With a vast array of runs where even the most experienced skiers can still be challenged and beginners can find their feet at the excellent ski academy.
St Anton is perfect for groups with varying abilities on the slopes, with the distribution of beginner/intermediate and expert runs being fairly even throughout the resort.
Beginners will most likely head up Galzig chairlift towards St Christoph where the gentler blue slopes are more prominent and make up roughly a quarter of all the slopes in the resort. You can always check out Rendl to try some more of the easy blue slopes. If this is your first Skiing holiday I would recommend that you are well prepared before and make sure that you are mastering the blue slopes before even thinking about moving to the red runs further up the resort.
For intermediate skiers, there is so many different red runs that you could not possibly master them in a week. The Gampan lifts are full of red runs to keep you entertained, however, I would get on these earlier as they can get very crowded very quickly. The Gampberg runs to the east of the resort also offer some of the best action and take you right back the resort centre. A word of warning though, test the blue runs first as some of these red runs can get very tricky and if you are a bit rusty then you will fall…lots.
If you are an expert, I am sure you don’t need us to tell you how good St Anton is for you. With black runs aplenty there is something that will test even the most experienced of skiers. With challenging vertical drops and moguls you will need to keep your wits about you if you are to navigate down some of these testing runs, particularly the Valluga-Grat run.
Nightlife
If you are looking to get of the slopes and into the bars then St Anton is for you. With a lively bar scene throughout the resort that allows you to party from sunset to sunrise.
Most of the major hotels will have a lively bar where you can start the night before heading into the main resort centre where you will find everything you need to ensure a heavy hangover in the morning. The Mooserwit bar is located directly next to the main runs and is always full of other skiers and snowboarders looking for a good time. The resort is also full of great live music venues such as K.K Bar, The Picadilly and Griblies all hosting great bands or DJ’s most nights of the week.
Drinks and entrance fees are usually between 4-6 euros which is a good sight cheaper than some of its European cousins.
Getting there
Innsbruck airport and rail station are the easiest methods into St Anton.
Connections between St Anton and Innsbruck have been improved with the construction of road tunnels, while the railway station has been moved to the outskirts of the resort and has been replaced by a pedestrian area.
