Solden

Solden is one of the most famous and popular ski resorts in Europe. It is the only resort in Austria that has three mountains over 3,000 feet which means that you are guaranteed regular snow fall in an extended season of October right through to May.

There is a nice even balance to the difficulty of the slopes so it makes it ideal for a family skiing holiday or large groups with varying abilities. Most of the blue runs are located to the east of the resort in Giggijoch where runs 13 and 15 provide some great variation for those learning the slopes. If you head over to the west of the resort and run 6 will give you a chance to try some off piste ski in alpine conditions.

Intermediate skiers will be spoilt for choice when they visit Solden, there are limitless red runs where more capable skiers can take advantage of the interlinking runs and some of the most challenging and diverse slopes in all of Austria. Runs 11, 5 and 2 really showcase what Solden is all about; varied slopes in some of the most beautiful alpine conditions.

The west of the resort, towards Tieffenbach, is where the expert skiers will spend the majority of the their time, with the majority of the black runs being centred around this area. Runs 3 and 31 are two of the busier black runs so only head on these runs if you don’t mind the possibility of the runs getting crowded.

Of course if you don’t fancy skiing all day long, you can visit one of the 20+ mountain restaurants and coffee houses on the way down the mountain in the main resort centre of Otzal. The town centre also has a brand new sports centre where visitors can try their hand at Curling, Bobsliegh and book sleigh rides through the peak season. It is only a short bus ride to the Langefeld spa where visitors can be pampered in a day of pure relaxations.

In terms of Apres-ski and eating out in Solden, you will be spoilt for choice of restaurants and bars in the main resort centre. From traditional Austria cuisine to lively nightclubs, everyone’s tastes will be catered for when planning to visit Solden.

Mangia Bene and Mounty Burger are two of the most loved restaurants in the resort, which both have menus that have twists of local specialities on. For those looking for  a late night/early morning party fest Fire & Ice is the most popular and wild club in the resort. For those looking for a little less heavy night, Snow Rock Café and Mirage are some of the best bars that provide a great setting after a long day on the slopes.
